Hi, I'm Matt
Fearless freelancer, intrepid illustrator & coder of websites, at your service.
Intergrating function with rich visuals to create emersive and meaningful online journies is my passion. From concept to fully responsive digital experience, my goal is to understand user intent, accurately reflect the brand and drive conversion by creating relavent and engaging content.
I have always had a creative streak and a love of art and design. My graphic design work includes web graphics, logos and corporate branding, photography, portraiture and character design.
Kewmunity is a Pokémon Go community that meets each month at Kew Gardens to hunt for shiny Pokémon, defeat raid bosses, trade Pokémon and socialise. As a member of Kewmunity it was a pleasure to be asked to design the website.
I write articles about upcoming events and design promotional artwork. I decided to use Wordpress for this project in order to become familiar with the platform and enhance my skills.
I am currently working on a new member feature where players will be able to connect and compare scores. Coming soon!
To create an online portfolio of work and showcase my skills. This is an ongoing project that hopefully reflects the evolution of web design.
The latest version on my portfolio is fully responsive. It has been designed to adapt to the device viewport and optimise the delivery of content across mobile, tablet and desktop.
I have endeavoured to combine clean and crisp design while maintaining my personality as you would expect any website to do for the brand it represents. This website has had many designs throughout the years (and will probably have many more in the years to come). Like myself, my portfolio is always evolving and adapting.
Rugger Kids is a tag rugby club for children in Staines. When the new owners purchased the company in 2013, the website was little more than a landing page for contact details. The brief was very open, they wanted a whole new look, I was asked to create something special to represent them online, something interesting and fun that would drive more business.
I chose to apply a fresh and brightly coloured theme to mirror the club's kit and the outdoor element of the business. I designed a collection of colourful bouncing rugby balls for the header buttons and revamped the company logo in my own style. I also created a character art of Leo the Lion, the lovable company mascot.
I built pages to outline the services provided by the club and to introduce the company and the coaches. To handle customer enquiries, I built a page of FAQs and set-up a PHP contact form to direct email to the coaches. In order to drive more business and improve Rugger Kids' online presence I registered the company with Google and some local directories, I also set-up social media pages and shared with individuals in the local area.
As digital designer at Wyevale Garden Centres I worked with the food and beverage department to create online promotions and menus for the Garden Kitchen Restaurant.
I was asked to produce a collection of images featuring arrangements of complimentary seasonal plants. I used Adobe Fireworks to create the following montage.
Wyevale Garden Centres offers a wide range of garden furniture in centre. I was asked to create a digital product catalogue where customer can view the range and its availablity.
The range features a large number of furniture sets so I built a script to filter products by category, material and price.
Autumn is an important season for Wyevale Garden Centres. I worked closely with the marketing department to impliment a month long digital campaign for the Autumn campaign.
Landing web page design for Wyevale's plants of the month promotion.
Little Diggers is a Wyevale Garden Centres initiative that provides seasonal childrens activities such as gardening, crafts and baking.
As part of the marketing campaign for each event, it was my responsiblity to create an online piece to accompany the point of sale artwork. This landing page would also serve to provide navigation to the external booking agent and drive footfall in centres.
The brief was to create seasonal product landing pages, to include a selection for trees and plants, garding equipment, decorations and gifts. The secondary function was to advertise some of the events going on across the various centres.

The dark knight is one of my favourite pieces to date. I sketched and scanned the caped crusader, then used MS Paint (as I had limited tools at the time) to render him at pixel level. I'm not joking, it took a while.
I love video games and love drawing scenes and characters from them. This is a Super Nintendo game titled "Star Fox" from the 90's. This was created using only Adobe Fireworks.
What kind of geek would I be if I didn't have a bit of Star Wars fan art in my collection? Boba was sketched in pencil, scanned and rendered with MS Paint and GIMP software.
The empire's finest laser fodder was sketched then scanned and rendered with MS Paint and GIMP software.
Originally a sketch on black card with green and blue pencil, the shadows contrast with the bold colours to create a dark but iconic image of Bruce Banner's alterego.
This X-Men inspired character was created for a colleague and her comic book podcast and Twitter page.
My favourite local band; Kid Champion asked for a sporting themed image of the band to celebrate the London 2012 Olympics. I opted for a sports day four-legged race, with flaming drum sticks and the union flag. I also incorporated the band logo with Olympic rings.
Concrete Sneakers is the name of my fun-running duo, I created this image to promote us and hopefully make some extra cash for Children with Cancer. We are still taking much needed donations (even if we don't do much running anymore). If you can spare a pound or two, please donate to this wonderful charity, that does so much for suffering children and their families.
The artwork for a previous version of my site was hand-drawn and scanned. I filled in the base colours with MS Paint and used Adobe Fireworks for some of the effects.
A last minute fancy dress party inspired this one. A Superman t-shirt, a suit and a pair of old glasses makes a pretty good Clark Kent.
Vrooom! is was an sample I created for a prospective client. It's a comic book piece inspired by Roy Lichtenstein's 'Whaam!'
The sisters and their faithful friend were hand-drawn from photos and scanned. I filled in the base colours with MS Paint and used Adobe Fireworks for some of the effects.
I was asked by a friend to recreate one of her favourite photos of her daughter along with her class mates.
This trio of witches were pencil drawn and scanned. I filled in the base colours with MS Paint and used Adobe Fireworks for some of the effects.
This halloween character of myself was pencil drawn and scanned. I filled in the base colours with MS Paint and used Adobe Fireworks for some of the effects.

I was asked by Nick the DJ of The Pit to create a piece that encapsulates the spirit of his rock club; a safe and welcoming place for all, with great music and fun times. These are a few of the concepts I came up with.
This scene features vibrant characters each with their own styles. These characters are inspired by real people I met when researching the rock club. Everyone is welcome at the Pit.
The club often has themed nights and fancy-dress parties. These ladies are enjoying a birthday night out.
I drew Sponge Bob and the crew as a birthday gift. Surprizingly fun to draw.
I painted these two pieces on canvas with oil paint for my niece.
